Week 1: The Snippets

Blog created. Snippets reviewed and analysed. An interesting scene on page 42 with the crowd of people, including Marji and her family, frolicking happily, with their eyes closed, exlcuding Marji. Represents how everyone is blind to the truth, whereas Marji is unknowingly aware, which is presented on another panel, where the parents smiles, celebrating their freedom achieved, whereas Marji frowns, disagreeing with her parents. There is also a dragon/snake like frame slithering around the panel, I guess sort of telling the reader that their hardships are not over yet.

  1. in page 44, i don't see their eyes closed or how this panel shows everyone is blind to the truth. do you mean page 42?
Plus, i don't think Marji knows anything when she was a kid, in page 62, Anoosh said"she's just a child who repeats what she hears" it shows that Marji didn't have a clear vision of whats going on.

  2. I agree with you Kevin, yet I think that even though she did not have a clear view when she was little, she lives in an environment where children's privilages are limited, therefore, through everything that Marji goes through, she understands what could be right and wrong. She basically thinks outside of the box. You know that saying that "children are always right because they are telling the truth"? (People now a days use children when they are debating. Which makes their debate stronger because, who wouldnt believe a child?
I hope I made sense...if not, I will tell you at school. :P

  3. I partially agree with the author of this blog (who is the author anyways?) and partially agree with Dabitza (which one wrote that?).
Not only are children's perspectives seen as irrelevant by parents, or many adults (seen as unimportant and invaluable), yet children depict the solid truth that lies within society, because they are taught and brought up (usually) to say the truth.
In Marji's case, she is not given the proper treatment because she is a girl and she lives in Iran and she is still a child. Respect for her, as a minority is pretty low.
This panel really tells the story of how adults are blinded by bias and do not get the "full honey of the hive" because of their preconceptions. Look at Lord of the Flies. That novel really highlights the problems of society...

  6. yea! great ideas! I completely agree with you when you say everyone is "blind to the truth except Marji!" I'm not so sure about page 44 but, definitely for page 43 where the parents eye's are close.
